Matetsi Private Game Reserve Guest Stories
Tell us about your journey and your thoughts and impressions of Africa.
It is always a pleasure to receive feedback on how the &Beyond experience has touched our guests. For many of them, a life-long love affair with Africa's wide open spaces and its incredible wildlife has started at one of our lodges across the continent. Others have formed lasting friendships with the warm and welcoming &Beyonders they have met on safari. Here is just a sample of the incredible comments we have been receiving from our guests staying at Matetsi Water Lodge.
Marc Dorfman - A Dream You Wished You'd Dreamt
"Matetsi was the first of our three safari destinations. It was jaw-droppingly, heart-stoppingly, eye-poppingly stunning. Our guide, Kenias, was smart, charming, funny and patient with us. We felt like old friends after the first day. And about that first day!"
Wild dogs hunting impala, a pride of lions on a hillside eyeing a small herd of ellies playing in a watering hole at sunset, giraffe, zebra, Cape buffalo - unimagineable to see such splendor on our inaugural outing. And, of course, our room was beyond our expectation, though we'd seen the photos. The vista overlooking the Zambezi, the spaciousness and luxurious comfort, the much-welcomed air conditioning, the comfortable bed and, oh, the bathroom - enormous and beautiful. Charity, our sweet, sweet housekeeper, lavished that room with flower petals, drew us a bubble bath and wrote a lovely farewell note to us. Meals were lavish and delicious, served by candlelight along the river by our ever-attentive butler, Nason. As I write this, I'm thinking was this real or did I just wish it so? But it was real, even though it lived like a dream.
Robin Myers - Africa Experience
"My friend and I spent four days at Matestsi at the end of our African journey. It was an incredible lodge."
The bungalows were marvelous and I really liked the heated mattress pads in the chilly mornings. I loved hearing the hippos at night and in the early morning, sitting on our deck looking out at the river while resting or having lunch; breakfast and dinners outside by the river were perfect. But, as great as the lodge was, the people I met were the best. I felt so welcomed by the staff. They were wonderful, and so warm and loving. Staying at Matetsi was a great ending to my first African safari.
James Scurr - Beautiful People and more
"Rashiwa, Moses, Peter 2 and Joseph are still very clear in our minds. What beautiful people. They made our stay so special."
After a long day of game drives and exploring to come back to not just a very comfortable lodge, but with our bath already drawn with a bowl of fruit and wine was just amazing. Not to mention the special message left on the floor written with tree seeds. It was truly our most loved and memorable holiday, one we hope we can experience again soon.
Dot Obst - Fabulous Holiday
"What a fabulous holiday. Everything went extremely well. All transfers, organisation, staff, lodges, etc were excellent. All organized perfectly and thoroughly enjoyed by both of us."
Matetsi Water Lodge was wonderful. The game was excellent, the driver and guide were top class, the staff were wonderful - the whole experience was first class and we will be recommending it to everyone here. Sossusvlei Desert Lodge was fabulous. The lodge was fantastic, the staff were wonderful, our guide was excellent - we couldn't have asked for more. Of course, the balloon flight was a highlight and totally recommended for all guests. It was a beautiful flight and then we landed in a river bank for a champagne breakfast - couldn't have asked for more. We thoroughly enjoyed it and we will be back. We will also be recommending all our staff contact you and go with &Beyond on any trips they do.
Debbie Bartman - Game Drive Delight
"It is next to impossible to pick out "the" best tale of an &Beyond trip. The first game drive brought us to a herd of young bull elephants yards from the vehicle. This was followed by game drives of giraffe, zebra, Cape buffalo, birds galore, more elephant and, of course, impala on every corner."
On our last morning in Matetsi we begged Caspar and Kenias to take us on an early morning drive before we had to meet the bus to our next destination. They happily obliged. We started in one direction when they got the call that lions had been spotted - they asked if we were up to turning around - absolutely! Kenias jumped in the Land Rover and off we went. We didn't get to see lions but watching Caspar and Kenias track the lions and check every possible spot they could be in was almost as good as seeing the big cats themselves.
