Whether you wish to take a leisurely walk for a couple of hours a day or spend all day in the bush, we can create the ideal experience for you. Start out at the crack of dawn or begin the day after a leisurely lie-in, the choice is all yours.

Explore the wilderness on foot in the company of your very own expert ranger, taking the time to observe the small wonders of the bush, from spiders and ant lions to dung beetles. Get to know the fascinating biodiversity of the Phinda wilderness from the finer details, whether it is a spider's web or the story that unfolds from reading the tracks left by animals in the sand. Follow the trail for a breathtaking glimpse of the reserve's wildlife from closer than you ever dared imagine (please note that predators are not approached on walking safaris). Phinda was once part of the seabed and you may encounter a rock encrusted with shells exposed in an eroded gully.

A surprise awaits along the way, as an al fresco lunch is set out in the shade of massive bushveld trees, followed by the option of a peaceful siesta in a gently swinging hammock.

Return to your lodge at night, or walk to one of the other lodges at Phinda, where you have the option of staying overnight, to be greeted with a warm and soothing bubble bath. What a wonderful way to get a true sense of all of the incredibly diverse habitats of Phinda. Overnight stays must be booked before arrival. Has the bush bug bitten? Would a night spent under the stars within the comforts of a tent out in the open simply complete your experience? A sleepout can be arranged for you on request provided that a room at any of our Phinda lodges has already been booked before arrival. Bush sleepouts are charged the nightly lodge accommodation rates. If sleeping out, a sumptuous bush dinner is served under a twinkling night sky before you fall asleep to the enchanting night sounds of Africa.

In addition to nightly accommodation costs, our tailormade specialist walking safaris are priced at ZAR 6 120 per group per night, based on a minimum two-night stay. Regrettably, specialist walking safaris are not suitable for children under 16 years of age.
