Sossusvlei Desert Reserve Guest Stories
Tell us about your journey and your thoughts and impressions of Africa.
It is always a pleasure to receive feedback on how the &Beyond experience has touched our guests. For many of them, a life-long love affair with Africa's wide open spaces and its incredible wildlife has started at one of our lodges across the continent. Others have formed lasting friendships with the warm and welcoming &Beyonders they have met on safari. Here is just a sample of the incredible comments we have been receiving from our guests staying at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge.
Doug Honnold - Banana-Yellow Scorpion
"While our guide and I scaled a steep slope to see San paintings in a shallow cave, my wife waited below, sitting on a rock. She had earlier told the guide that, after having heard so much about scorpions from the lodge staff, she would be disappointed not to see one."
Soon enough, my wife gave a loud cry that brought us tripping down the slope to find her trying to evade a big, banana-yellow scorpion that was following her movements. I jokingly accused the guide of being so accommodating that he had brought along the scorpion and left it for my wife to discover so that she wouldn't suffer the disappointment she had feared.
Nanette van der Borght - Beautiful Namibia
"Our trip to Namibia, was (again) an impressive journey and our children were as thrilled as we were about the country, the people and, of course, the animals."
For our stay at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge: First of all, we would like to compliment you and your organisation on the beautiful setting, the nice atmosphere, the variety of activities and the nice staff. From start to finish, it was great. For Tom's birthday a special cake was made and we were so surprised with two small backpacks with all the articles for the children. Also, the welcoming story and the bedtime story for the children were very appreciated. This is what we call service! Although we only stayed for one night, it was an unforgettable one. It is not possible to compare this stay to our stay at Mnemba two years ago - different setting but the same personal touch. As for one point to improve; we would like to point out that there are no road signs up to the Lodge, so we had some trouble finding it (since we were driving ourselves in our vehicle). Again, thank you so much for your help and kind emails. We are sure that we will be with you again in the future. Best regards, Nanette and Alexander Louwrier, Kim and Tom
Mark Murray - Idyllic days in the desert
"From unbelievable beauty, interesting game sightings and ancient rock paintings to the most wonderful culinary experience."
The accommodation is the best we have stayed in, and it is wonderful to lie on your bed at night and gaze through the "star-gazer" in each lodge's roof.
Deirdre Ozmond - Magical Namibia
"Starry nights with our very own astronomer to guide us through the complexities of the night sky."
The whole atmosphere was peaceful and awe inspiring, we even had beautiful music playing softly in the background, which helped to create a magical experience. Each time we visited the open air observatory, we were shown different stars and galaxies. We were transported to another world and even when we went to bed we could continue this experience by watching the starry sky through the glazed aperture above our bed.
Jacques Gresse - Namibia!
"Extremely friendly and professional service. The night sky made this a truly unforgettable experience!"
The rooms are very spacious and well furnished. Flying in was easy and the desert weather was kind to us. Sunsets are unforgettable and the sundowners even more so. The quad bike drive was also a very, very nice experience!
