I sat outside my beautifully appointed room to watch an array of animals wander aimlessly and peacefully just metres in front of me. The guides skillfully navigated me through the Mara with a passion and enthusiasm that was infectious! And what better than to lie by the lovely pool in an idle heap for the afternoon processing the morning's drive, soaking up the African sun and preparing for the evening's delicacies? I only wondered in awe how they could produce such fabulous cuisine in such a remote and breathtaking spot.

"One evening at Bateleur Camp, we invited all the other guest to join us and have dinner together. The staff was wonderful and put all the tables together in a row, masses of candles lighting the black night."
It was one guest's birthday and we all sang. A staff member played his guitar. We shared experiences with people from Italy, Colombia, England and the US. Languages were traded like smiles. No one could stop laughing. We heard from the coffee buyers who had taken their holiday there and from newlyweds sharing their honeymoon with us. The intimate size of the Camp made it possible to get to know everyone and enjoy their company. The staff treated us like visiting angels. The sights at the Camp were fantastic and we had seen plenty by then, as this was our final stop. We had been to Grumeti and Ngorogoro Crater Lodge, both enchanted locations too. But our lasting love was Bateleur ... sitting on the deck, watching the animals stroll by - today a "dazzle" of zebra, tomorrow, who knew? We loved our trip and our accommodation and thought the food was so good we bought the cook book!

The Great Migration began early that year and we were fortunate enough to begin our stay along with the plethora of beasts. Our guide was wise and educated ... he was Maasai and had been guiding for many years. He took us out for a night drive, which was one of the most exciting experiences of our lives. The dining was out of this world, and our two (not ONE, but TWO) servers stayed with us the entire time for every meal and we were treated with kid gloves. I would return in a second and cannot stop telling anyone who will listen about Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara!

"Since I was a young boy, I had dreamed of the wide open plains I had seen so many times at the movies and on TV. Then one day I found myself in an aeroplane landing in Nairobi. Wow, this is really happening. I was 45 at the time, but in my mind I was a young, 30-year-old explorer."
Sitting in the small plane, flying over the land I have dreamed about for so many years, left me speechless. Emotions were running high. Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp is exactly what I wanted this experience to be. Wild, with all the luxury one could wish for. Sitting on a leather chair, gazing out over the plains, watching hundreds of wild animals passing by, left me wondering how soon I would be able to come back to this Eden. We were very fortunate to have a ranger and tracker for just the two of us, so travelling through the Masai Mara become a very intimate affair and we felt very, very privileged. Everywhere we looked there were thousands of God's creatures, big and small, crawling or flying - it was wonderful. A dream come true and an adventure I will treasure for the rest of my life.
