This safari begins and ends at Kilimanjaro International Airport.

DAY 1: ARUSHA

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be warmly welcomed by a member of the &Beyond team, who will drive you to the Arusha Hotel.

An attractive little town situated beneath the towering peaks of Mt Meru and Kilimanjaro, Arusha is renowned as the safari capital of Tanzania.

Spend the afternoon with your mountain guide, preparing for the climb.

Stay the night in a standard room at the Arusha Hotel. Your stay includes breakfast.

Day 2: Machame

You will be driven to Machame Gate, where the track begins. Walk through the lush lower rain forest to Machame Hut, a moderate to demanding day's hike. Camp is pitched at an altitude of 3 000 m (9 845 feet).

Day 3: Shira

Cross a valley and a stream, then climb up a ridge. The path drops into a river gorge before a gentler ascent onto the moorland of the Shira Plateau. Camp near Shira Hut at an altitude of 3 840 m (12 600 feet).

Day 4: Barranco

Walk through typical Kilimanjaro mountain vegetation, reaching a high point of around 4 600 m (15 090 feet) before descending again. On clear days, you can see the Lava Tower and the distant glaciers. The path into the Barranco Valley is particularly rewarding and the view of Kibo peak is spectacular. Camp near the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 3 950 m (12 969 feet).

Day 5: Karanga

Ascend the Barranco wall, and walk across scree and ridges to Karanga Valley (4 100 m or 13 450 feet), with breathtaking views of the Western Breach and the southern glacier. Have lunch at the camp and go for a short acclimatisation walk.

Day 6: Barafu

Head up a morraine ridge with spectacular views of the southern glaciers and glacial valleys. Reach camp by lunch, leaving time to prepare and relax. In the evening, your guide will brief you on the final ascent.

Day 7: Summit and Mweka

The attempt on the summit occurs in the early morning hours. Pass between the Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers to reach Stella point, which marks the spot higher than any other place in Africa. Continue to Uhuru peak (5 896 m or 19 345 feet) and watch the sun rise from the roof of Africa. The return journey is quite long and camp is pitched at Mweka at around 3 100 m (10 170 feet).

Day 8: Descent / Arusha

The final descent is through the lower heath section, which turns into rain forest.

A vehicle will be waiting at Mweka Gate to take you to Arusha Airport. Here you will be met by a member of the &Beyond teams, who will drive you to the Arusha Hotel, where you can relax for the night.

Day 10: Departure

Tuck into a sensational breakfast feast before you return to the airport, where your Kilimanjaro adventure with us will end.
