One of the world's largest man-made reservoirs, Lake Kariba lies serenely between spectacular mountains. Nile crocodile sun themselves on the lake's shore or on the many small islands rising from its waters, while hippo inhabit the lagoons. Herds of elephant splash in the shallows and may even be spotted swimming among the many islands. Fish eagles, cormorants and other water birds can be found nesting on the wooded shores. When the dam was created, Operation Noah, one of Africa's largest game rescue efforts, removed ample wildlife to the scenic reserves found along the lake's shores and today vast herds of wildlife can be spotted wandering the fertile floodplains. 

A diversity of game fish, including the famed tiger, make Kariba an angler's paradise, while game viewing opportunities, boating and watersports provide a range of entertainment for visitors.
