The beach resort of Watamu lies on an untouched stretch of beach along the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. The area is famed for its white sandy beaches and offshore coral reefs, which are protected as part of the Watamu National Marine Park. Voted as one of the top ten beaches in the world, Watamu offers long stretches of rock pools to be explored at low tide, filled with breathtaking marine life. Whale sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, lion fish and brightly coloured crabs can all be seen in the balmy waters. A saltwater creek edged with mangrove swamps provides ample opportunities for birdwatching and canoeing amidst the extraordinary vegetation.
